Brees → Designing a personal budget management app for Gen-Z’s

-- A personal budget management app for tracking expenses and incomes
Personal budgeting is a framework of how you spend, manage and save your money. It's meant to track and manage an individual's finances, allowing you to allocate income towards expenses, savings, and debt repayments.

Its purpose is to provide a better understanding of where your money is spent.

This is what Brees is for, your personal budget management app.

👀  Just one goal: Out with the old, in with the New

Core problems and challenges:
Brees: Bastardization of the word breeze. Cause we make managing money a brees 🤣
Brees is a personal budget management app that tracks your expenses and incomes and gives you recommendations to make you financially fit.
Building an MVP from a wireframe
I was approached by the team on a contract basics to help turn their wireframe into an app worthy of its name, targeted at tech savvy GenZ’s.
It is built around the core idea of making individuals and especially GenZ’s & millennials, become more conscious about saving their money and knowing exactly how much & where they spend it.
Besides, it's totally digital and just how they like it - hassle-free!

Building the solution by experimenting

Kicked off with researching competitors products to get an understanding what the experiences are and who the industry players of budgeting apps are, keeping in mind that our aim for the Brees app is to be pleasing, subtle and easy to use or navigate.

Multiple Iterations and refining

Next step of the process was sticking to the 2 weeks timeline and hastening up the work by doing exploration exercises, basically, designing multiple layouts/options for the team and I to iterate on and help create a clear vision on the best design style, layout and approach that meets the goals of the team and Brees app users.
First iteration v2 - reworked home page view and
create a budget flow
First iteration v1 - home page view and account page

Results and what's next?

Sadly, the team couldn’t raise after 200+ beta users and had to call off the product, this could have been one of my best work yet if only the team had raised money, kept the team running and launched in 2021, but not every dream gets to become reality.

P.S: I got permission from the team to share half of the designs to the public, so you can check out my Figma community profile for the file and check out the designs. And for my design nerds: I didn’t use auto-layout as it wasn’t invented in 2021 yet, so don’t come for my head.
